The Different 96 Well Plate Bottom Shapes
96 well plates are used in high-throughput chromatography mass spectrometry labs. 96 well plates allow for automation from sample preparation to final analysis. Because of the many applications for 96 well plates and the variety of instrumentation they need to fit for automation, all Chrom Tech 96 well plates have the standard ANSI/SLAS standard base and footprint. From our 96 deep well plate 2mL to our 96 well shallow round well, you can trust they have the ANSI/SLAS standard base and footprint, regardless of the other well plate dimenions.
Although All 96 Well Plates Have the Same Footprint, there are other differences in 96 well plate geometries:
- Well plate geometry, i.e.: round or square well format
- Overall height of 96 well plate dictates volume in each well
- Well internal diameter also dictates volume
- Underside of 96 well plate bracing determines if the plate can sit on a magnet
- Material of construction: polypropylene, polystyrene, or glass
- Rim or no rim on top of the plate for use with appropriate sealing films. Raised rims improve sealing with heat-sealing systems and stop cross contamination
- The bottom shape of the well: U-shape or round bottom, pyramid or V-bottom, or flat bottom.
- Round and V-bottom allow for greater liquid removal and particulate collection
96-Well Deep Round ‘Common Wall’
Chrom Tech’s revolutionary plates are made in virgin polypropylene to minimize extractables. Maximum volume is 2.075 ml per well and working volume is a useful 1.85 ml, more than any other comparable ‘2 ml Round Well’ plate in this class. The ‘common wall’ design allows the highest possible volume to be used whilst maintaining an overall height of just 45 mm, complete with ANSI/SLAS standard base and footprint. Extra working volume is thus assured in a convenient round bottom, round well format.
96-Well Shallow Round Well
Chrom Tech offers a number of storage/collection plates to help in the fields of cell biology, molecular biology, drug discovery, combinatorial chemistry, screening, and genomics. We offer three plates with well capacities of 350µl, 270µl, and 220µl. They have flat-, round- or V-bottoms and can be used for compound storage and culturing.
96-Well Round Low Profile
A new introduction to the Porvair range is a low profile 1.1ml 96-well round plate with a height of just 27mm. This allows you to store or stack more plates in a given space. The plates are made with extractable-free polypropylene for excellent results. A specific anti-evaporation cap mat is also available for this plate, which is manufactured from thermoplastic elastomer.
96 Well Assay Plates

Low Affinity Binding Microplates for Sample Purification
The deep well plates are manufactured using virgin polypropylene for the lowest leachables and extractables that are free from DNase and RNase.
