The Different 96 Well Plate Bottom Shapes

96-well plates are commonly used in high-throughput chromatography mass spectrometry labs, enabling automation from sample preparation to final analysis. Due to the wide range of applications and the various instruments they must be compatible with, all Chrom Tech 96-well plates adhere to the ANSI/SLAS standard base and footprint. Whether you're using our 96 deep well plates with 2mL capacity or the 96-well shallow round well plates, you can be confident that they meet the ANSI/SLAS standard, regardless of the well dimensions.

While all 96-well plates share the same footprint, there are other variations in their geometries:

  • Well plate geometry, such as round or square well formats
  • Overall height of the plate, which affects the volume in each well
  • Internal diameter of the wells, which also influences volume
  • Underside bracing of the plate, which determines whether it can sit on a magnet
  • Material of construction, such as polypropylene, polystyrene, or glass
  • Rimmed or rimless tops for use with appropriate sealing films. Raised rims enhance sealing with heat-sealing systems and prevent cross-contamination
  • Well bottom shapes: U-shape, round, pyramid, V-bottom, or flat. Round and V-bottom wells are ideal for efficient liquid removal and particulate collection.

96-Well Deep Round ‘Common Wall’

Chrom Tech’s revolutionary plates are made in virgin polypropylene to minimize extractables. Maximum volume is 2.075 ml per well and working volume is a useful 1.85 ml, more than any other comparable ‘2 ml Round Well’ plate in this class. The ‘common wall’ design allows the highest possible volume to be used whilst maintaining an overall height of just 45 mm, complete with ANSI/SLAS standard base and footprint. Extra working volume is thus assured in a convenient round bottom, round well format.

96-Well Shallow Round Well

Chrom Tech offers a number of storage/collection plates to help in the fields of cell biology, molecular biology, drug discovery, combinatorial chemistry, screening, and genomics. We offer three plates with well capacities of 350µl, 270µl, and 220µl. They have flat-, round- or V-bottoms and can be used for compound storage and culturing.

96-Well Round Low Profile

A new introduction to the Porvair range is a low profile 1.1ml 96-well round plate with a height of just 27mm. This allows you to store or stack more plates in a given space. The plates are made with extractable-free polypropylene for excellent results. A specific anti-evaporation cap mat is also available for this plate, which is manufactured from thermoplastic elastomer.

Designed for a perfect fit, the Porvair Sciences 96 deep well plate, 96 well elution plate, and 96 well magnetic combs tips are specifically made to be fully compatible with the Thermo Scientific™ KingFisher™ range of purification systems. These consumables are made from medical-grade polypropylene to ensure low affinity binding of biomolecules and low leachables and extractables throughout the extraction and purification workflow. Low Affinity Binding Microplates for Sample Purification
