Retention time, selectivity, and peak shape can all be affected by temperature in liquid chromatography. Many laboratories change temperature significantly seasonally or even daily. To control temperature of an liquid chromatography column, a column oven can be used. If heating substantially above ambient temps (to heat the column, rather just control the temperature), the solvent should be heated prior to reaching the column with a pre-column sleeve.
