Positive Pressure Processor

Cerex Positive Pressure Processor

  • Provides uniform, reproducible flow across all extraction steps
  • Individually restricted ports ensure even pressure—whether using one or all positions

Chrom Tech offers both Positive Pressure and Vacuum Manifolds for solid phase extraction (SPE) and filtration applications. However, we strongly recommend Positive Pressure Manifolds—and here’s why:

Traditional vacuum manifolds often cause inconsistency during extraction. As faster-flowing wells in the SPE plate run dry, vacuum channels open and reduce pressure to the slower wells. This leads to uneven flow rates, longer run times, and inconsistent analyte recoveries between samples. Variability of this kind can compromise reproducibility and analytical precision.

In contrast, the Cerex Positive Pressure Processor utilizes restricted-flow gas ports that deliver uniform pressure to every well. Even if most ports are dry or empty, the remaining wells maintain the same steady pressure—ensuring uniform extraction across all positions. This design provides a superior level of control, reproducibility, and throughput for SPE and filtration workflows.

Unlike vacuum systems, which are limited to less than atmospheric pressure (~15 PSI), positive pressure manifolds operate at up to the supplied line pressure (typically 60–75 PSI). This provides the power required to process viscous samples efficiently. Pressure can be finely adjusted for immediate and smooth column flow response, optimizing precision across all wells.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a positive pressure manifold superior to a vacuum manifold?

Positive pressure manifolds maintain consistent flow through all wells by delivering uniform pressure, unlike vacuum systems that lose control as channels run dry—ensuring reproducible recoveries.

Can positive pressure manifolds handle viscous samples effectively?

Yes. They provide up to 75 PSI of pressure, delivering smooth and immediate flow response—ideal for viscous matrices that vacuum manifolds cannot efficiently process.

Is the Cerex Positive Pressure Processor compatible with all SPE plate formats?

Yes. The Cerex Processor is compatible with standard 96-well SPE plates and cartridge formats, offering flexibility for a wide range of sample preparation workflows.
